How Do I Choose the Right Residential Architect for my Project?

Embarking upon a brand new project can be daunting, especially if, as a homeowner, you haven’t experienced working with an architect before. Here’s some advice from our team …

There’s no such thing as a ‘typical’ project, and although some projects may appear to be similar to another one, in fact, each has its own challenges. These can range from issues that arise regarding Victorian foundations to uncertain property boundaries and dealing with proposed extensions or alterations to listed properties. However, JLE Studio will rise to the occasion, advising on the practicalities and possibilities of period and Listed homes as well as creating inspirational new living spaces for our clients and their families.

1 . Look at Our Work

Take a look at our work, which includes transformations of period townhouses into streamlined and beautiful family homes and adding luxurious features such as a pool house and swimming pool to a Grade II listed home. Every project we work on is unique, and our team will guide each client through the whole process from the original wish list to the finished project.

2. Think about your Wish List

For a residential project, it’s likely that you will have some ideas in mind, and as Residential Architects, JLE Studio welcomes initial starting point ideas from new clients. It gives us an overall idea of the size and scope of your project, whether it’s a basement conversion with ground-floor reconfiguration or a brand new home to be designed from the ground up.

3. We’re in Contact with Planning Officers

The JLE Studio team has long-standing experience working with Planning and Conservation officers in Local Authorities, and consequently, we can call upon that pool of knowledge when working with new clients. We can advise whether a project is likely to be approved and if not, what kind of adjustments will be required to satisfy Planning regulations – and/or Listed Building Consent.

4. We Build Brand New Homes

JLE Studio is well known for transforming existing houses -  creating serenity, beauty, and practicality from badly planned and unloved homes. We also build new houses from the ground up, working with individuals or developers who want a stunning architect-designed private home. We have experience working with clients who have bought land and want to create their forever home, such as a timber-frame build with eco-credentials.

5. We are RIBA Chartered Architects

As RIBA Chartered Architects the JLE Studio team is highly experienced in various sectors, and our team members have a range of specialties. We work with Listed homes and Historical Buildings, and we know how to approach Planning Authorities in Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. At all times our aim is to design and build beautiful homes and buildings for our clients that will enhance their lives and those of their families.
