Wardrobes, Storage and Bedroom Furniture – What are the Options?
Our bedrooms aren’t just a cosy retreat from the rigours of the day. They must provide storage space too – keeping beautiful clothes, accessories, bags and shoes in neat order whilst being easily accessible. Wardrobes and occasional items such as chairs and bedside tables can add glamour and contemporary style to the scheme.
Wardrobe Solutions
Wardrobes can be individually designed on the inside as well as the outside. The exterior can be a mixture of materials such as timber frames - perhaps with veneered or fabric panels - or a painted finish. Our design team can create wardrobes to contrast or co-ordinate with the chosen wall coverings, to complement the flooring or simply to work with the existing architectural details and proportions of the house. The interiors of our wardrobes will offer bespoke solutions for individual storage needs, from hanging rails to open shelving and shelves for shoes, bags and accessories. These solutions can extend to dressing rooms and walk-in wardrobes too. Our interior design team will come up with bespoke ideas for freestanding or fully fitted wardrobes, or a combination of both. Some of our projects may include the requirement for built-in wardrobes along one wall or alcove, perhaps with a matching freestanding design in another area.
Simplified Storage
Storage space doesn’t need to be complex, but it does need to be accurate. There should be storage space for summer clothes as well as winter clothes, plus shelves or racks for boots, full-length dresses or coats, and size-appropriate hangers for suits and formal wear. Our team will consult with each client to make sure each bedroom has the most suitable wardrobe and storage areas for each member of the family. In many of our projects we will be designing age-suitable storage for little ones as well as for the grown-ups. We may need to ‘future proof’ those rooms, creating possibilities for rails and shelves to be adjusted as each child grows and their needs change.
Headboards & Bedside Tables
Upholstered headboards are very stylish and ‘of the moment’ and can add a grand focal point to the bedroom – especially if the headboard is tall and wider than the bed. Such headboards can provide focus, colour and pattern to the scheme, perhaps with luxurious velvet or the clever choice of a textured fabric. An end-of-bed ottoman or upholstered chair can repeat the fabric and/or colour of the headboard, extending the focus into the centre of the room. We often design bedside tables or chests to match, and our bespoke services allow these items to fit the spaces exactly. In guest rooms, these important pieces can sometimes double as a make-up table or desk area too. If our project includes a loft extension, we are very often called upon to design storage areas in the eaves. These designs can range from wardrobes to desk or vanity areas depending on the height available, and will streamline the look of the room, usually bringing symmetry and elegance to what may have been a previously illogical and under-used area.
Chairs, Upholstery and Occasional Pieces
Bedroom chairs and other upholstered items can often be regarded as ‘finishing touches’ in a bedroom scheme. They can be chosen to match or contrast with the decorating scheme, and can include pieces such as dressing table stools, armchairs, pouffes, a bedroom sofa or chaise, or storage ottomans. The joy of such items is that the theme can be eclectic or co-ordinated, with the opportunity to add new individual items in the future, or perhaps re-purpose a chair or stool by changing the upholstery fabric. Our designers also keep their eyes open for vintage and antique items to add unique and individual touches to our projects.
